“Trinity” Exhibits at The Mckinney Avenue Contemporary

This work was originally created for a sermon series “Forgotten God” and is a visual commentary on the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The work coveys a diagrammatic connection between the Father, or source to the in-dwelling red that signifies the installation of the Holy Spirit. The red connects well to the blood of Christ, the Son. I am a member of the MAC which is located in Dallas, Texas.

New Representation with The Good Art Company, Fredericksburg TX

This year I added The Good Art Company to my representations. This gallery, located at 218 Main Street, is a space that exhibits a nice variety of genres, landscapes, portraits and abstracts ranging from traditional to non-traditions methods of art making. I was impressed by the lighting, and the space. I am looking forward to showing at this gallery for many years to come. Currently I am showing 12 works at the GAC Gallery.

“Internalizations” a Finalist in International Competition

Mixed media artwork, “Internalizations” was selected as a finalist in the 2010 Art Kudos international competition. Artists who are selected as finalists benefit from world-wide exposure for their exemplary work. The 2010 Art Kudos international exhibition was juied by Mitchell Albala an instructor at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle and author of Landscape Painting: Essential Concepts and Techniques for Plein Air and Studio Practice. ”Internalizations” was selected alongside 146 artists representing 23 countries worldwide.

“Threads”

A artwork that I altered “Threads”. In its previous state, I included a “toylike image” in the center as a surrogate standing in for one amidst turmoil. I have sense changed this central image to one of my daughters dresses. Tension caused by the pushing and pulling of linear movements and the presence of such a sweet image makes the work more tense and engaging…. and attaches more successfully to children. This, and works that are similar are used as accountability pieces fostering strong familial structures—-that love unconditionally and encourage.

My MFA Thesis Exhibition, “PR O X I M IT Y”

Proximity consists of internal reflections addressing physical, psychological and spiritual proximities between God, myself, and my family. My work addresses the fears, uncertainties and resentments in response to past familial divisions and the ambiguous nature of presence and absence. I utilize past accounts of my family’s history and ambiguous memories as way to discuss the affects of being steadfast versus more subversive actions. Housing structures, as bodily forms, create for me a dialog which places all parts as important for the structural integrity of the form. Missing parts that are physically distant, yet psychologically present, in my works, cause trauma which leads to an unstable foundation, and thus an infected body and home.

My work addresses, with vigilance and evaluation, my own modeled past and the cyclical pollutions that could affect my relationship with my daughter if ignored. The work has been instrumental as visual accountability for me as a new father. Realizing the divisive natures in many contemporary families, the making of art also becomes an intercessory tool as I pray for others that contend with these issues of separation and instability.

Representation with Agora Gallery

I have recently earned representation with Agora Gallery located in Manhattan in Chelsea, New York City. I will be showing a selection of works from my most recent series from October 2nd through the 23rd. The opening of this exhibition will be on the 8th of October from 6-8 pm if you are in the area. The address for the Agora Gallery is 530 West 25th Street, Chelsea New York, 10001. I will be sending invitations to the exhibition along with posted press coverage and reviews soon. Work Selected for “Rising Eyes of Texas 2009″

Contained Unraveling was selected for “Rising Eyes of Texas 2009″, an annual juried group exhibition for undergraduate and graduate students emerging in the visual arts. I was one of the 40 artist chosen statewide for this exhibition at the Rockport Center for the Arts in Rockport, TX. Work Chosen for Texas Tech University MFA Group Exhibition
